George N. Buzzendore, 93, of 222 Union St., Columbia, PA died at his
residence on Saturday evening. He was the husband of Betty Knighton
Buzzendore to whom he was married for 68 years. Born on February 23,
1924 in Billmyser, PA he was the son of the late Michael and Mary
Buzzendore. George retired as a molder for the former ITT Grinnell Corp.
in Columbia where he was employed for 30 years. He loved his Sunday
trips to the casinos and was an avid Phillies Fan. George proudly served
his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a prisoner of war in a
German prison camp and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was an
active and faithful member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and was a
volunteer for many of the church's activities. Surviving
besides his wife are 5 daughters: Marion wife of Lawrence Lutter of
Glen Rock, PA, Teresa wife of Daniel Smith of Columbia, PA, Betty Noll
of Marietta, PA, Ann Lively companion of Jaime Martinez of Marietta, PA
and Mary Beth wife of Larry Nell of Marietta, PA, 15 grandchildren, 15
great-grandchildren, brother: Joe Buzzendore of FL and a sister: Theresa
Knighton of Columbia, PA. He was predeceased by brothers: John and Jake
Buzzendore and sisters: Mary Vaferis, Anna Geist and Betty
Stoutzenberber. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Peter's Catholic Church,
2nd and Union Streets, Columbia, PA on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at
11:00AM with Rev. Fr. Anthony Swamy as Celebrant. Final Commendation and
Farewell will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery with Full Military
Honors by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and the VET 21 Gun Salute. A
viewing will be held on Wednesday evening at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral
Home, Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, PA from 6:00PM – 8:00PM with the
Holy Rosary being recited at 7:30PM. There will be no viewing at the
church on Thursday. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
