John Martin, Jr.

John Martin, Jr.

John W. Martin, Jr., 91, of Columbia, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Norma Drasch Martin who preceded him in death in 1997. A lifelong Columbia resident, he was the son of the late John W., Sr. and Agnes Bittner Martin.

John graduated from Columbia High School in 1945 and after his honorable discharge from the U.S Army following the end of WWII, he continued his technical studies at the Stevens Trade School. He retired as a tool and die maker for the Woodstream Corporation, Lititz and the former Hamilton Watch Company. He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia, the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus Council 2294. John loved the outdoors, cycling and most of all, the company of his family.

He is survived by his loving family, John W. Martin, III (Ruth); Thomas J. Martin (Yvonne); Stephen M. Martin, deceased (Katherine); James F. Martin; George A. Martin (Lisa); Philip E. Martin (Ann); Bernard G. Martin (Dawn); Theresa M. Shoff (James); Barbara A. Gambler (Mark); Mary E. Hennemann (Edward); 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a brother, Robert T. Martin. He was preceded in death by his sisters Jeanette Myers and Margaret Martin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St. Columbia PA on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Kelley, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday one hour prior to the mass. Kindly omit flowers. Contributions to the Columbia Meals on Wheels, PO Box 391, Columbia PA 17512 in John's memory would be deeply appreciated. Arrangements by the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc.
