Ben Smith

Ben Smith

Ben S. Smith, 87, of Mountville, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Juniper Village. He was the husband of Doris Jones Smith with whom he was married 65 years. Born in Lycoming County, he was the son of the late Matthew Stanley Smith and Ruth May Sechler and one of nine children.

Ben was a cook in the U.S. Army during the Korean War at the rank of a Corporal. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued his lifelong profession as a chef at the former RCA Corporation and at the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.

He was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Columbia, where he volunteered for many years at the annual Lenten Fasnacht sale. He was a member of the Holy Name Society; Legion of Mary and the V.F.W. Post 5752, Mount Joy.

He will be remembered for his singing, storytelling, expert marble shooting, but most of all his special devotion toward his family.

In addition to his wife are his sons, late Michael Smith, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Barbara, wife of Keith Sheffer; Larry, husband of Gayle (Kline) Smith; Mark, husband of Becky (Engle) Smith; grandchildren, Michael Jr., Mallory, Amanda (Scott), Kristina, Aaron, Hannah; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Avery and Piper.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 409 Cherry St., Columbia, PA 17512 on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Kelley, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. Friends may view at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Kindly omit flowers. Contributions to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or to the Masonic Village of Elizabethtown for the Masonic Village Hospice, c/o Masonic Villages, Office of Gift Planning, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 in Ben's memory would be deeply appreciated.
