Christopher J. Bongart, Sr.

Christopher Joseph Bongart, Sr., 70, of Columbia, left this world on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.  He was the son of the late Ralph and Agnes McCall Bongart.  Chris worked at the former George Stambaugh's Gulf Service Station in Columbia in his early years.  He retired in 2007 after 42 years of service at Harley-Davidson Motor Company, York.  He enjoyed racing go-carts and old cars, especially the 66 Chevy Nova he restored, taking his car to local car shows.  He was married 52 years this past December to Mary Ellen (Bartch).

 

Together they reared 4 children, Laurie Ann companion of Paul Wittensoldner, Washington Boro, Mary Jo wife of Terry Tirko, Mount Joy, and Christopher, Jacksonville, FL.  He is survived by his three grandchildren, Terry and Erin Tirko and William Bongart.  Also surviving is his sister and brother in law Barbara & Bill McMinn.  Chris was predeceased by his "baby girl" Nadine Marie, siblings Joann and Ralph.  Funeral arrangements will be at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions in Chris's memory may be made to: Diabetes Association, P.O.
