Joseph P. Geesey

Joseph P. Geesey, 82, of Landisville, passed away surrounded by his family on June 26, 2018. He was the husband of the late Audrey Kreiser Geesey with whom he was married 47 years until her passing in 2003. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Paul W. and Nancy Wisler Geesey.

A graduate of Columbia High School, Class of 1954, he continued his education at the University of Louisville, SPI Academy, Police Administration (1972) and Millersville University earning his BA/Sociology (1974).

Joe retired in 1992 as the Captain of Detectives from the City of Lancaster, Bureau of Police where he was employed for 34 years. He continued his employment as a County Detective and Coordinator of the Major Crimes and Homicide Unit under the auspices of the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office for an additional 20 years, retiring in 2012.

An outstanding wrestler at Columbia High School and Millersville University, he was a NCAA-PIAA wrestling official from 1959 through 2018 officiating over 500 college and high school meets and tournaments including ten NCAA D-1 National Championships; one NCAA D-3 National Championships; four NCAA D-1 National Team Championships; ten PIAA State Individual Championships and two PIAA State Team Championships.

In addition, Joe was a honored member of the National Wrestling, Hall of Fame (college); Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Officials Hall of Fame (college); Eastern Wrestling League Hall of Fame (college); Pennsylvania Coaches Wrestling Hall of Fame; Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame- Susquehanna Valley Chapter; PIAA District 3 Wrestling Hall of Fame; PIAA Lancaster-Lebanon Sports Hall of Fame and the Lancaster County Sports Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his children: Marjorie Jo Williams (Brian), Lancaster; Thomas Mitchell Geesey, Lancaster; Eric Scott Geesey (June), Lancaster; Joseph Brian Geesey (Susan), Millersville; and the late Tracey Lynn Geesey in February 9, 1987); grandchildren: Rebecca Hope Wiker, Harleysville; Evan Dane Geesey, Lancaster; and Quinn Everett Geesey, Lancaster; siblings, Mary Lynn Geltmacher (George), Columbia; Michael Lee Geesey, Mount Joy; Steven John Geesey (Nancy), Towson, MD. He was preceded in death by his siblings: William Edward Geesey, Robert Wisler Geesey and Nancy Louise "Bridgette" Geesey Pelen.

Family and Friends are invited to attend the Requiem Eucharist on Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 340 Locust Street, Columbia, PA promptly at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Tim Small, officiating. Additional parking is available at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, corner of Fourth and Cherry Streets. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc., 519 Walnut Street, Columbia, PA on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and again at the church on Monday from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. Kindly omit flowers, memorial contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the Columbia Education Foundation, PO BOX 548, Columbia, PA 17512 or Lancaster Police Foundation, (for equipment and training), PO BOX 10171, Lancaster, PA 17605-0171.
